Awardees & Finalists Announced for 2023 SCC Madam C.J. Walker Scholarship
New York, NY — The Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC) is pleased to announce the 2023 Awardees and Finalists for the SCC Madam C.J. Walker Scholarship, generously sponsored by Mary Kay.
The Scholarship Selection Committee has selected the following Awardees, each of whom shall receive a $5,000 scholarship:
Precious Ulel University of California Irvine (Undergraduate student majoring in Pharmaceutical Science)
Xylia Ajose University of Cincinnati (Graduate student majoring in Cosmetic Science)
The following Finalists were also recognized by the Committee this year for their outstanding achievements:
Jada Alcantara University of Toledo (Undergraduate student majoring in Cosmetic Science & Formulation Design)
Destiny Durante University of Illinois Chicago (Graduate student majoring in Pharmaceutical Sciences)
All Awardees and Finalists receive a financial support package to attend the SCC’s 77th Annual Scientific Meeting & Showcase in New York, where they will be recognized on-stage during the Annual Awards Breakfast on December 13, 2023. Additionally, each will have the opportunity to present their research via poster in the Showcase throughout the event. “Year after year, the scholarship program continues to grow and attract outstanding applicants,” said Erica L. O’Grady, CAE, Chief Executive Officer of the Society. “The Awardees and Finalists demonstrated impressive accomplishments and embodiment of the spirit and legacy of Madam C.J. Walker. We are pleased to reward and recognize the achievements of this impressive group of young scientists and look forward to their future contributions to the industry.”
About the Scholarship Established in 2021, the Madam C.J. Walker Scholarship, sponsored by Mary Kay, awards two (2) $5,000 scholarships to specific under-represented minority students of any gender identity pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in chemical, physical, medical, pharmaceutical, biological, or related sciences and technology with an interest in pursuing a career in the cosmetics and personal care industry.
