dsm-firmenich has named Marie Salamagne and Frank Voelkl as Master Perfumers — the first Fine Fragrance appointments of this distinction at the company since 2016. The announcement, made on 2 July 2026, underscores the rarity of the title and dsm-firmenich‘s continued investment in olfactive creativity at its highest level.
The designation of Master Perfumer is among the most prestigious in the fragrance industry, reserved for creators whose careers have profoundly shaped contemporary perfumery through years of dedication, discipline and creative excellence. dsm-firmenich was previously featured in Euro Cosmetics for its Cloud Dancer fragrance collection — a project that equally highlights the company’s mastery of scent creation.
Marie Salamagne: Emotion at the Heart of Perfumery
Marie Salamagne began her career at a Grasse fragrance house before joining dsm-firmenich in 2001, where she trained under Olivier Cresp. Her portfolio spans some of fine fragrance’s most recognisable launches: Aqua Allegoria Mandarine Basilic (Guerlain), By the Fireplace and Beach Walk (Maison Margiela), Black Opium and Muse (Yves Saint Laurent), Fame (rabanne), Orange Marmalade (Jo Malone London), and Flora Gorgeous Orchid (Gucci). Her signature style champions emotional conviction — where technical mastery serves a deeply human vision of scent.
Frank Voelkl: International Vision, Multicultural Craft
Frank Voelkl was shaped by contrasting influences — the raw natural scents of his German childhood and the elegance of Paris, where his vocation for perfumery took hold. After studying chemistry and training at ISIPCA, a formative mentorship with perfumer Maurice Roucel guided him towards streamlined, assertive compositions. Based in the United States for over 30 years, Voelkl has developed an international creative signature that blends multicultural depth with a strong commitment to mentorship and knowledge-sharing within the craft.
dsm-firmenich’s Master Perfumer Legacy
Salamagne and Voelkl now join dsm-firmenich‘s existing group of Fine Fragrance Master Perfumers: Alberto Morillas, Olivier Cresp, Honorine Blanc, and Nathalie Lorson. A ceremony celebrating their appointments is planned for September 2026 in Paris, bringing together the perfumery community and dsm-firmenich‘s global partners.
“Through these appointments, dsm-firmenich reaffirms its ambition to elevate the art of fragrance creation through signature perfumes that leave a lasting impression on consumers around the world.”
